From the Director's Desk Volume 1 Issue 2 "Once again, I have the great privilege of thanking each of you, on behalf of the faculty, for the opportunity to nurture in young people a desire for lifelong learning, a dedication to truth, and a commitment to service. As the executive director, I want to thank you for your tireless involvement and magnificent support - which insured the success of our first holiday fundraiser. Your continued generous gifts will enable us to become the premiere school in the Antelope Valley. In our steps forward, we create a path and a history for those who will follow. As each of us individually and collectively move forward in the journey of Henry Hearns Charter School, we build the dream together and carry the spirit of Hearns Charter School forward into the future. Our educational team worked collaboratively to forge the vision embodied by the HEARNS Model, [see HEARNS Model Page] and we refer to it daily to inspire and guide our efforts. We're charged to the task of implementing the HEARNS model as we move into the new year." From the Director's Desk Volume 1 Issue 1 "It is commonly held that the educational system in this state is merely where we house at-risk children until they're old enough to transition into the ranks of the working poor or become residents of our prison system. In Hearns Charter School, we operate from a much different premise regarding what effective education needs to be. Parents are turning to our charter school, because we have a different school of thought. Our program is designed to meet the individual learning styles of each student. The school's mission is to develop able people of the 21st Century who are prepared to walk successfully in their journey of self-discovery and become catalysts for positive change in the larger world. Our rigorous academic program and the extended school day provide an opportunity for teachers and students at Hearns Charter School to not simply meet but to exceed curriculum standards. The extended academic day allows block scheduling with intensive instruction and in-depth activities in math and language arts with an emphasis on reading. The goal is to help each student achieve to the best of his or her ability." |
