Discover why the Antelope Valley is THE place to teach!

The Antelope Valley Union High School District is geographically Los Angeles County’s largest school district extending from San Bernardino County on the east to Ventura County on the west, to Kern County on the north and the San Gabriel mountains on the south.
The District dates to 1912 when thirteen elementary districts unionized to provide a high school. The District serves the educational needs of 9th through 12th grade students residing in approximately 1100 square miles or 30% of the total Los Angeles County area.  The AVUHSD  operates eight comprehensive high schools, an adult school, a series of  continuation schools, and a Community Day School program. Plans are underway to build additional comprehensive high schools within the next few years.

The Antelope Valley has enjoyed unprecedented growth and prosperity in the last decade. Once home of vast herds of prong-horned antelope and acres of alfalfa, AV is now the busy center of an expanding aerospace industry and home of the space shuttle.

The total population of the Antelope Valley exceeds 350,000. Major employers in the area are manufacturers in the aircraft/aerospace industry and the Valley is the home for many defense contractors. NASA maintains various facilities at Edwards Air Force Base. Other major employers in the Valley include local and federal government health care services, retail stores, school districts, community college, extension universities and construction contractors.

The Valley still offers an uncrowded and open landscape for nature lovers and adventurers of all kinds, and retains much of the charm and serenity of it natural and rural character on outlying ranches and mini-farms. Various outdoor clubs and vocational groups offer regular meetings and activities. Separated from Los Angeles and the Coastal cities of Southern California by the San Gabriel Mountains, the Antelope Valley is located on the southwestern rim of the Greater Mojave Desert in northern Los Angeles County's "High Desert" region.
