The California Recommended Literature List: A collection of outstanding literature for children and adolescents in grades
kindergarten through grade twelve. You may search the online database for titles using specific criteria.
The California Recommended Literature for Mathematics and Science A collection of outstanding
science-and mathematics-related literature for children and adolescents. The recommended titles reflect the
quality and the complexity of the types of materials students should be reading at school and outside of class.

California Young Reader Medal -
Young people suggest the name of favorite books for nomination, or teachers and librarians note repeatedly read or requested titles, and these are submitted to the California Young Reader Medal Committee each year. Find out about the newest selections here.
The Coretta Scott King Book Award
This award is presented annually to an African American author and an Aftican American illustrator for an outstandingly inspirational and educational contribuion. You can look at lists here.

- The site features a manual for beginners as well as a list of storytelling book recommendations, and many llinks to other storytelling sites.

Banned Books Week is also Freedom to Read Week
- September 20- 27, 2003 was Banned Book Week. Look at a list of 100 most challenged titles and be amazed.Part of the American Library Association's site.

Banned Books On-line
- This site is dedicated to dispensing information as well as
texts of books that have been the objects of censorship or
censorship attempts. The books range from Ulysses to Little
Red Riding Hood, but they are representative rather than
exhaustive. Find background information of book bans in
general as well as lists of The Most Frequently Banned Books
in the 1990s, and Books that Have Been Challenged in school
libraries (with reasons). One example is To Kill A Mockingbird
(Conflicts with values of the community).

This lists popular films that were based upon a published book. You can search by title of the book, title of the film, author of the original book, and the movie release year.

Bibliomania
- Although this is a commercial site, there are included free online literature that includes more than 2,000 classic texts (lots of books that are not copyrighted.)

Boooklist
- Here is the online version of the American Library
Association's Booklist magazine of reviews. Included are
reviews of books for adults, youth, audiovisual media,
reference materials, Best Book Lists, and more. The only place
to find a cumulative index.
- Center for the Study of Science Fiction
- This site has a wealth of links to help teachers and students to spread the love of SF,
including awards for science fiction for young people, lresson plans, and major magazines.

Outstanding Books for the College Bound
- The books on this list are recommended by the Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association and is revised every five years.
The list is divided into five sections: fiction, biography, nonfiction, drama, and poetry. The site contains the full contents of the printed listand also provides links to
websites that provide more information about particular authors or titles.

- Click on the link for a help desk for teachers in need of advice, whether
it's about a hard-to-reach student or a teaching strategy

- School Library Journal, the print magazine, and now, School Library Journal Online, the web site, serve librarians who work with young people in school and public libraries. The two publications give librarians indispensable information needed to manage libraries, from creating high-quality collections to understanding how technology can assist (or hinder) learning.

- Dedicated to best books for children, this magazine-like site
has sections for an educator resource center, award winning
books, favorite links, top ten books, current reading list,
interviews, activity center and more. Top ten authors includes
Judy Blume, Roald Dahl, and Shel Silverstein.

- This is the home of great lists of best books. Find books for the college bound,
1999 popular paperbacks, and lists of best books for yound adults.

Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site
- One of the better-known children's literature sites, this is a
rich collection of reviews of great books for kids, ideas of
ways to use them in the classroom and collections of books and
activities about particular subjects, curriculum areas, and
themes. Reviews are organized by title, author, type of book,
and grade level.

- This site lists websites that are related to children's
