Library Mission Statement

In an environment that is safe and caring, the staff will facilitate student learning. Students will learn to appreciate and respect themselves, others and their environment. Our goal is to graduate young adults who are ready for post-secondary education, careers, economic self-sufficiency, and effective citizenship.

Kinds of Libraries

College Library

Academic Libraries are located on college campuses. The books and periodicals that are purchased by an Academic Library support the courses taught at that University or College. If a particular subject is not taught there, books about that subject will not be in the collection. Periodicals will tend to be Journals that publish scholarly articles needed for college level papers.

Public Library

Public Libraries carry books on almost any subject. The books that are selected will depend upon the people who use that particular libary. Because most patrons are adults, the fiction will reflect popular adult fiction and best selling authors and the magazines provided are also popular titles. Many Public Libraries also have wonderful young adult and children's literature sections.

School Library

OK - This is our library! School libraries purchase materials that either support the curriculum of the school or are recreational reading. High School Libraries have a much larger selection of books written for young adults than any other type of library. Reference materials are also selected specifically for young adult readers.

Special Library

Special Libraries are used by newspapers, manufacturing companies, television studios, research labs, magazine publishers, and more. Newspapers keep back issues and lots of reference books. Well, you get the idea.
