All
students at Phoenix High School have had school difficulty and most are
placed due to the expulsion process or because they have had problems
obeying the law. Students who are or have been expelled or waived their
hearing rights and are assigned to attend Phoenix, have had certain
conditions placed upon them by the school board of trustees. They must
pass a re-entry hearing at the end of their expulsion time. If they do not
meet these required conditions, they must stay at Phoenix High School
until these obligations are fulfilled. Students who complete credits and
are eligible for graduation, must complete their board imposed sanctions
in order to receive a high school diploma.
Students who are not expelled and who
have not committed a felony may be eligible to return to a comprehensive
high school (the school where their parent/guardian resides unless an open
enrollment has been granted). Students meeting eligibility but who are
short credits or off target for graduation may return only to the
continuation school or may elect to stay voluntarily at Phoenix. Students
who stay voluntarily may return to a district high school at the start of
a new semester or when the continuation school completes a session.
Voluntary students may attend public activities at another high school and
ROP on another campus only with written permission from the principal.
