The
name Phoenix High School was carefully selected for what the
Phoenix represents, a colorful and mythical bird rising from its demise
among the flames and ashes.
This dramatic rebirth is a symbol for
reborn idealism and hope. It is an emblem of a person restored after
suffering calamity. This is the core of our vision statement: We seek
to create hope in the lives of student, preparing them to become positive
members of the community through a rigorous program of structure, academic
nourishment, pervasive caring and responsible decision making. Phoenix
High School has adopted the slogan "Regeneration
through Education."
Since all the students have had
behavioral problems resulting in their assignment to Phoenix High School,
our goal is to focus on the positive aspect of each student's ability,
develop a positive attitude, and assist them in developing social and
academic skills for success.
Our small school setting allows us to
focus on each individual student in providing a curriculum of basic
academic skills, assisting the students with an appropriate education,
relative to future life. We also strive to develop a positive self-image
by stressing the importance of how one appears acts and communicates. We
believe that these are not only indicators of attitude, but demonstrate a
willingness to cooperate, self respect for the student, and respect for
others also. Our overall objectives are straightforward. We stress the
importance of regular school attendance, following district and school
rules, completion of academic work (credits toward a high school diploma)
and the completion of individual terms and conditions set forth by the
Board of Trustees in the expulsion process.
The students are asked to memorize and
repeat the student affirmation daily:
Today is the best day to make a positive
change in my life. I must have a positive attitude. I must set
a goal and focus. I must work to pay the price, then I must help
others succeed |
