Course Description: Provides classroom and hands on instruction to prepare students for careers in emergency medical services. It provides a preparation to successfully complete EMT training. The course includes: career preparation and exploration, occupational, personal safety and health requirements, surface anatomy, principles of physiology, basic functions of the nervous system, cardiovascular system and respiratory system, principles of shock, patient assessment and vital signs, oxygen therapy and airway adjuncts and basic life support.
Competencies
*Perform an assessment of a patient’s vital signs
*Perform BLS procedures and aseptic techniques
*Obtain Basic Life Support Certification
*Apply bandaging to various types of simulated wounds
*Demonstrate pre-hospital treatment for head and spinal cord trauma
*Demonstrate procedures for extrication emergencies
*Identify the Legal Aspects EMS
*Complete Skills testing for moulage techniques
*Identify and perform and ambulance equipment inspection
*Demonstrate Triage
