More about UW!

About United Way of Greater Los Angeles

United Way of Greater Los Angeles is a nonprofit organization that creates pathways out of poverty by helping homeless people move into housing, providing students with the support they need to graduate high school prepared for college and the workforce, and helping hard-working families become financially stable. United Way identifies the root causes of poverty and works strategically to solve them by building alliances across all sectors, funding targeted programs and advocating for change. For more information, visit www.unitedwayla.org

EMPLOYEE DONATIONS:

You may make recurring donations to UW Pathways through automatic payroll deduction. Deductions are pulled 10 months per year.  IE: a $100 donation would equal $10 per month.  Thanks to everyone that have a payroll deduction in place to "UW Pathways".  Maybe, you could increase the amount,  or perhaps would like to add $26 to a "Designation Dollars" organization!

Give online with a workplace donation at https://www.giveunitedla.org/
You'll find AVUHSD in the drop down menu.

Your main “UW Pathways “ will automatically renew next year, while you must renew “Designation Dollars” yearly.

Obtain blank/return completed employee donation forms from Chris Jarrett cjarrett@avhsd.org in the Personnel Services Office
or you may contact your individual high school site representative.

September 2011 - If you haven't had a chance to donate yet, please visit the link above. Also, Sue Porter from United Way will bring some new "coin cans" coming around to the school sites - "drop a lil' change, and make a big change in someone's life"!

April 25-29, 2011 - We are going to push the date to April 29th to allow more time for submittal of DONATION FORMS as many of us have been busy with testing and such forth.  Please submit your new or your RENEWAL forms by April 29th.  Your generousity during tough economic times is truly admirable.  The United Way is committed to helping families right here in the Antelope Valley.  A few dollars a month can go a long-way towards helping those who are really less fortunate in our town.

November 2010  -  Big hearts and helping hands can make a difference this holiday season for many needy families.  Please take a look at the Local Agencies' Holiday Wish List to see how you can help right here in the Antelope Valley.

September 2010 -  Info courtesy of Sue Porter, United Way for Kiwanis Club
From Steven Angebrandt . . . "We are in the chartering phase and I am looking for 10 additional young professionals who wish to join with other professionals that are currently ready to serve their community in a new dynamic way with a new style of service club, this is not your mom or dad’s traditional type of service club.

The Kiwanis Young Professionals Club of the Antelope Valley meets online 2 to 3 times a month, meets in a general meeting, a social activity, and a service project once a month.  We are looking to attract likeminded individuals or couples who have started in their careers, maybe even in their families, are from the ages of 21 to 35, have a desire and wish to enhance our community by servicing those in need of a helping hand by performing various service projects for many deserving causes. I believe this club could use your assistance and expertise. Would you consider two things for me, one passing on this information to your friends and colleagues that may wish to serve and second consider having young professional members of your organization join us?

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or individuals we may recruit to join in with us. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely, Steven Angebrandt, sangebrandt@sbcglobal.net President Kiwanis Club Palmdale West 661.965.7356

"I'd like to send my thanks to all our AVUHSD faculty and staff.  Your dedication makes miracles happen daily in the classrooms, and your gift to the United Way can make miracles happen off-campus.  Your donation to the United Way may help some of our very own students and their families.  A hot meal,  a place to stay, and somewhere to sit and do homework can make a big difference in a student's life.

I am very proud to be a part of the AVUHSD family, and proud to support the United Way!"

 - Dr. David Vierra,
AVUHSD Superintendent
