College Readiness and Preparation
The Antelope Valley Union High School District offers its students many ways to prepare for college and career including the opportunity to take the PSAT and SAT, Advanced Placement coursework and exams, an International Baccalaureate program, articulated and dual enrollment courses that can provide college credit while still in high school, and Naviance Student, which gives students practical college and career planning tools. Along with these, AVID is a college readiness system that supports and teaches students the study, organizational and social skills necessary for success in high school and college.
Career academy students prepare for college and career through rigorous academic and technical courses, field trips, college campus and industry tours, community service, and industry partner interactions, which may include internships. Our goal for every student is to graduate as creators, innovators, collaborators, communicators, and global and productive citizens.
Advanced Placement courses offer students rigorous courses that prepare them for college and offer college credit when the student passes the AP test.
Please see attachments below for an overview of College Preparatory Programs, Frequently Asked Questions, and for Advanced Placement courses at all Antelope Valley Union High School District high schools. All course offerings are subject to change.
AVID is a College Readiness System which equips teachers and schools with what they need to help students succeed on a path to college and career success.
The AVID Elective is a class that meets for one period a day where students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional support to succeed in their school’s most rigorous courses.
The power of AVID is the ability to impact students in the AVID Elective class and all students throughout the campus. AVID can have an effect on the entire school by providing classroom activities, teaching practices, and academic behaviors that can be incorporated into any classroom to improve engagement and success for all students. AVID trained teachers can take what they've learned at AVID training back to any classroom to help all students, not just those in AVID, to become more college and career ready.
AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

Many of our academic and technical courses provide our students with college credit for community colleges including Antelope Valley College, Citrus College and Mount San Antonio Community College.
These courses, called "articulated courses," are those that are integrated with community college requirements, so they can provide high school and college credit for the student.
