Summer STEAM Academy 2024
The Antelope Valley Migrant Education Consortium concluded its summer STEAM Academy with a celebration! Students engaged in classes covering Art, Music, and Engineering, among other great learning opportunities. They attended inspiring motivational workshops, enjoyed a soccer clinic with the AV Alta Soccer Team, and explored a vibrant community resource fair. Parents had the opportunity to participate in workshops on computer skills, math, and more. Tambien asistieron a inspiradores talleres motivacionales. Disfrutaron de una clínica de fútbol con el equipo AV Alta y exploraron una feria de recursos comunitarios vibrante. Los padres tuvieron la oportunidad de participar en talleres de computation, matemáticas y más. Multilingual Department Hosts Parent Workshops!
The Multilingual Department has been hard at work hosting a variety of workshops just for you! We’ve covered fantastic topics, including Tony Orozo and Discplina Positiva, tools to help your child stay on track for graduation, and recently, we wrapped up with a great session, Financing the Future. Financial aid, scholarships, CADAA, and more were discussed. Over 150 parents like you have already joined us!
We warmly invite you to attend our next DELAC meeting on October 31st, where we’ll share important testing updates and more. Don’t miss this chance to stay informed and continue supporting your child's success!

Financiando el Futuro/Financing the Future
On March 20th, the Multilingual Department held an informative workshop focused on financing secondary education for our students. Welcoming over 45 parents, the workshop featured breakout theme sessions, interactive activities, and resource stations. Parents actively engaged in discussions, gained insights into financial aid applications, and explored additional topics. We extend our gratitude to all attendees and look forward to your presence at our upcoming events!
El 20 de marzo, el Departamento Multilingüe organizó un taller informativo centrado en financiar la educación secundaria para nuestros estudiantes. Con la asistencia de más de 45 padres, el taller incluyó sesiones de temas específicos, actividades interactivas y estaciones de recursos. Los padres participaron activamente en discusiones, adquirieron información sobre solicitudes de ayuda financiera y exploraron temas adicionales. The AV Migrant Education Consortium is excited to partner with California State University San Bernardino once again, delivering the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) to our devoted parents. On Saturday, March 2nd, more than 20 parents eagerly engaged in the initial exams, demonstrating their steadfast commitment and resilience. Their unwavering dedication fills us with immense pride! Since October 2023, over 40 parents have embarked on this inspiring journey toward advancing their education.
In addition to their commitment to academic advancement, parents enthusiastically engaged in our weekly technology classes, honing their computer skills and digital literacy. Through hands-on practice and interactive learning sessions, they delved into various aspects of technology, empowering themselves with essential digital tools and knowledge.
El Consorcio de Educación Migrante del AV se complace en nuevamente colaborar con la Universidad Estatal de California de San Bernardino, ofreciendo el Programa de Equivalencia de Escuela Secundaria (HEP) a nuestros dedicados padres. El sábado 2 de marzo, más de 20 padres participaron con entusiasmo en los exámenes iniciales, demostrando su firme compromiso y resiliencia. ¡Su dedicación inquebrantable nos llena de un inmenso orgullo! Desde octubre de 2023, más de 40 padres han emprendido este inspirador viaje hacia el avance de su educación.
Además de su compromiso con el avance académico, los padres participaron entusiastamente en nuestras clases semanales de tecnología, perfeccionando sus habilidades informáticas y alfabetización digital. A través de actividades prácticas y sesiones de aprendizaje interactivas, exploraron varios aspectos de la tecnología, empoderándose con herramientas y conocimientos digitales esenciales.
The AV MEP Consortium visited California State University San Bernardino's Youth Summit on October 21st. Students and parents were able to participate in educational workshops geared toward career and post-high school education. Students also participated in a field trip to San Bernardino's Museum where they participated in hands-on activities and explored the area's rich history.
El Consorcio de Educacion Migrante visitó la Cumbre Juvenil de la Universidad Estatal de California en San Bernardino el 21 de octubre. Los estudiantes y los padres pudieron participar en talleres educativos orientados a la educación profesional y posterior a la escuela secundaria. LACOE Parent Leaders visited our MEP AV Consortium to lead a great workshop with our MEP parents. Parents were able to create their own books and biographies while their students participated in interactive reading and writing activities!

On October 17th, AVUHSD welcomed more than 200 Newcomer students to an amazing resource fair where students were able to collaborate with each other, learn about community resources with an Information Scavenger Hunt, and experience what AVUHSD has to offer. Guest speaker, Ariana Aparicio, shared her experience as a Dreamer and DACA recipient and her success graduating from Sonoma State University, Harvard, and now a doctorate student at UC Riverside. The day concluded with a raffle and great prizes!
El 17 de octubre, AVUHSD dio la bienvenida a más de 200 estudiantes recién llegados a una increíble feria de recursos donde los estudiantes pudieron colaborar entre sí, aprender sobre recursos comunitarios con una búsqueda de información y experienciar lo que AVUHSD tiene para ofrecer. La invitada especial, Ariana Aparicio, compartió su experiencia como Dreamer y beneficiaria de DACA y su éxito al graduarse de la Universidad Estatal de Sonoma, Harvard, y ahora como estudiante de doctorado en UC Riverside. ¡El día concluyó con una rifa y grandes premios!

¡El 9 de octubre, AVUHSD le dio la bienvenida a Tony Orozco y Disciplina Positiva! Abrimos nuestra sesión de otoño con un gran taller centrado en apoyar a nuestros estudiantes académica y socioemocionalmente. A la ceremonia de apertura le seguirán 8 talleres virtuales centrados en la preparación universitaria y la salud mental.
On October 9th, AVUHSD welcomed back Tony Orozco and Disciplina Positiva! We opened our Fall session with a great workshop focusing on supporting our students academically and social-emotionally. The opening ceremony will be followed by 8 virtual workshops focusing on college preparation and mental health.

On July 13th, author Leticia Ordaz and our very own student authors held a book signing event! Student authors received their books and family, friends, and staff celebrated this great achievement! We are very proud of our amazing authors!

Natalie Castro from SOAR High School and Pamela Francisco from SOAR Prep, both part of the AV Migrant Education Consortium, won first place in their category for the Cesar Chavez Essay Contest! They were celebrated at the Palmdale City Library Board of Trustees meeting. Congratulations!

On February 25th, AV Migrant Education Consortium participated in the Speech and Debate competition at the Los Angeles County of Education Offices. Students participated in both the English and Spanish competitions and were celebrated for their success! This was an outstanding leadership opportunity for the students, and they are looking forward to future Speech & Debate competitions at the state level.

On Saturday, Sept. 17th, Tony Orozco and Disciplina Positiva came to the Antelope Valley Migrant Program and facilitated an excellent workshop for parents! It was our first day of Migrant Education Saturday Academy. The day was full of collaboration, learning, and growth! He will return on 10/13 for an in-person workshop at the AVUHSD district office.

The AV Migrant Education Consortium students participated in the Cesar Chavez Essay contest and took home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place! They were celebrated last night, April 20th, at the Palmdale City Council Meeting.
