Antelope Valley Union High School District

A Message From AVUHSD

May 11, 2018

The safety of our students is always our highest priority. As you may be aware, an incident took place at Highland High School prior to the start of school this morning. We are incredibly grateful for the prompt actions of Highland High School teachers and staff and the first responders who courageously protected the lives of our students today. We know that every second is important in a situation like this and we couldn’t be more thankful.

During today’s incident, one student sustained an injury to his arm and is expected to make a full recovery.

We are prepared for all students to return to school Monday (May 14, 2018). Additional counselors, psychologists and staff will be available at all our campuses to provide support.

For more than 25 years, we have partnered with Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to provide deputies on each of our campuses who work with our security teams to provide a safe environment for our students, staff and community. We will continue to do everything we can to provide safe schools for our students and staff.

We have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from our local community, as well as county and state agencies.

Thank you for your continued support.
