What is Open Enrollment?

Open Enrollment is the process of applying to attend a high school within the AVUHSD boundaries, other than the student’s school of residence. The Enrollment Application window is open February 13, 2026 - March 16, 2026, for the 2026-2027 academic year, which starts August 10, 2026.

What is my school of residence?

Your school of residence is the school you are zoned to attend based on your home address.

Will my Open Enrollment application be approved?

Each high school has a limited number of Open Enrollment spaces. Students will be selected through a lottery process, not on a first-come, first-served basis. If applications exceed the available spaces, remaining students will be placed on a waiting list.

Is transportation provided if my student is approved for Open Enrollment?

NO, transportation for approved Open Enrollment transfers is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

I have a sibling who attends a High School that is not my school of residence. Can I go to the school they attend?

YES, students who have siblings currently attending the requested school and who will continue to attend that school for the upcoming school year will be approved. These approval letters will be mailed with the rest of the decision letters by May. However, if the older sibling graduates prior to the incoming sibling’s actual enrollment, the incoming sibling will not qualify for sibling approval.

How do I apply for Open Enrollment?

For those unable to access the online Open Enrollment Application from home or a mobile device, computers are available in the Student Services lobby at the District Office. The address is AVUHSD Student Services, 176 Holston Drive, Lancaster, CA 93535. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

I applied for Open Enrollment. Now what?

Notification of Open Enrollment approval or waiting list status will be mailed by May. Please continue the New Student Enrollment process at your school of residence. If approved for Open Enrollment, any registration information you have completed will be sent to the approved Open Enrollment school.

I missed the Open Enrollment deadline. Can I still apply?

No, the application window is open for 30 days, and only applications received during February 13 and March 16, 2026, will be reviewed for eligibility.
