School Safety

At the Antelope Valley Union High School District, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our absolute highest priority. To maintain a secure environment where your student can focus on learning, we have established a dedicated network of safety personnel. This includes a strong, collaborative partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department—led by Sergeant Chris May and Team Lead Jeremiah Nurse, alongside nine campus deputies and a dedicated detective —as well as eight school site safety directors, an alternative site director, dedicated campus supervisors, and locker room attendants.

In addition to our dedicated personnel, AVUHSD has made significant modern technology investments to proactively protect our campuses. We have installed cloud-based Verkada cameras across the district, allowing administrators to manage campus safety from anywhere and instantly share live feeds with first responders during emergencies. Our security infrastructure also features Evolv AI-powered weapon detection systems, which use advanced, high-speed sensors to detect concealed threats touchlessly without slowing down students as they enter school. Furthermore, our staff is equipped with the Centegix smart badge system, enabling any employee to instantly call for help and pinpoint their precise location within seconds during an incident.

We are incredibly proud that these ongoing efforts continue to make a meaningful difference; our annual survey data reflects that an overwhelming majority of our students, parents, and employees consistently agree and feel confident that our schools are safe places to learn and work.
